Do you not know that a little yeast leavens all the dough?
Clear out the old yeast, so that you may become a fresh batch of dough,
In as much as you are unleavened. For our paschal lamb, Christ, has been sacrificed. Therefore, let us celebrate the feast, not with the old yeast but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
I think that this scripture for Easter morning which speaks of the yeast that leavens all the “dough” is very appropriate for our Easter Appeal J And it’s not just the obvious connection between our request for financial contributions and the equation of “dough” with “money”. What’s really important is the “leaven” you are for the life of the parish. Because of your generosity so many people are nourished with the “bread of life”. I’m speaking not only of the Eucharist but also of the many ways in which people are nourished and grow in faith, hope and love through the parish and its ministries. This happens because you are willing to say “yes” to the invitation to be “yeast” so that we have enough “dough” to meet the spiritual and temporal needs of our parish.
This has been my first Holy Week and Easter at Xavier. I’m so grateful to the many parishioner who are the “leaven” for all these beautiful celebrations. The church environment, the music, the dance all contribute to making this a celebration of “new life”. Christ is Risen and we have reason to rejoice with him and with each other.
So, thank you again and again for being the “yeast” that helps to “raise the dough” J I pray that you may experience the fullness of life and life that is the Risen Lord’s promise to all of you!
In the Risen Christ,
Fr. Bob
