The Family Faith Program is a religious education program at the Church of St. Francis Xavier for students from pre-kindergarten through the 12th grade. The program includes post-confirmation classes, adult sessions, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, and the Family Faith Choir.

The families in the program worship together at the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. After Mass, they gather at the Xavier High School library for a healthy snack, announcements, and prayer. The parents then take their children to their classrooms, where they may either stay with them or return to the library to listen to a guest speaker. At 11:30 a.m., parents pick up their children in the classrooms.
Children can receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist after having completed two consecutive years in the program and are at least in second grade. They receive the Sacrament of Confirmation when they are at least in 7th grade, after having completed two consecutive years in the program.
The Family Faith Choir is an inter-generational choir organized by the Family Faith Program. It rehearses in the Music Room from 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. on Sundays.
You do not have to be part of the Family Faith Program to be in this choir. All children, teenagers, young adults, adults and seniors are welcome to participate.
The Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) At the 9:00 a.m. Mass every Sunday, except the first Sunday of the month and holiday weekends, the presider invites children from 1st to 3rd grade to go with a liturgical catechist to the West Room, while the 4th to 6th graders go with a catechist to the Mary Chapel, for an age-appropriate examination of the Gospel from that Sunday’s Liturgy of the Word. The Family Mass is celebrated the first Sunday of the month, at which the presider invites the children to come forward and sit on the steps of the altar for an interactive homily.
On holiday weekends, we do not have CLOW or Family Mass and there are no classes nor choir rehearsals.
Catechist and assistants are needed. What are the qualifications to be a catechist? If you are someone with an active, Catholic faith life and a desire to share that faith with young people, you’re exactly what we need! Training is provided.
Please note: A complete background check and Safe Environment training (an archdiocese-wide program) are required for all volunteers working with children.
Tuition: $200 for your first child and $100 for each of your other children. $80 per family to cover the snacks.
Sacramental fee: $50 if your child receives communion or confirmation this year.
